We were asked, as a class, to each create a 15-second bumper for a TV station. I choose Fuse since they are known to play with their logo, which would let me be more abstract. I made some concept sketches, and came to the idea of going into a cloud and ending up at the atomic level. I stylized this and made the atom transform into the Fuse logo at the end. To create this I used Cinema 4D for the 3D elements, then composited it heavily in After Effects.
This commercial was created for an online content on Poptent. The creative brief said they wanted a commercial that showcased their product's versatility and variety of flavors. In my original storyboards, I used simple text animation instead of the popcorn faux stop-motion. After going though a few drafts of storyboards, I had the idea of doing the whole commercial in stop-motion, however it became apparently that would be impossible due to time constraints (I only had 5 weeks from concept to completion). So, instead, I created a grid of popcorn using expressions in After Effects, and wrote another expression to control their color and opacity, essentially letting me animate normally on a layer and have it turn into popcorn.
In our class we were asked to create an advertisement for any popular website of our choice. I chose Instructables.com, as I frequently visit the website. My initial thoughts were that I needed to somehow showcase the number of different things that Instructables can help you with. So, I decided to make a journey through some of the normal activities one might look for an inscrutable to assist them with. At first, I thought about creating it in 3d, however, due to restrictions on the assignment, I was not able to. My second thought was to do it in vector, with an info-graphic-like feel, to appeal to the do-it-yourself nature of Instructables. I created all of the animation in After Effects, except for the folding plate/airplane, as this was virtually impossible to accomplish in CS5. That part was done with 3dsmax.
This was created for an online contest by Mofilm. We were take to create a commercial for Campbell's Soup. The creative brief stated that they wanted an ad that appealed to a new generation of soup eaters. Given that we only had 10 weeks to create the commercial (5 for pre-production and production, and 5 for post), this was a challenge. After many failed ideas ranging from claymation, to fairy-talesque stories, to aliens and time-travel, we came to the idea of a Campbell's superhero named: Campbell's Man. We started the story out with an ordinary guy, who eats a can of Campbell's Soup and becomes imbued with the magical power of Campbell's and sets off to spread the joy of Campbell's to all. We did all aspects of production for the project, from storyboards, production schedules, casting and scheduling, to cinematography, lighting, and sound to editing, compositing and color correction.
We were supposed to create a 3d interpretation of a poster. I immediately thought of "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge," as I've always found it interesting design-wise. Since the poster is supposed to signify the Bolshevik's breaking into the Whites, I thought, "Why not show that happening." So, I created the poster in 3d without the wedge or the hole it created, then used physics to have the wedge fly in and break the circle out, so that it appears as it did in the original poster.
This was created just after I had got a major upgrade to my computer. I wanted to create something that looked cool, and also pushed the capabilities of my new computer. At first, I attempted to create this in Realflow, however I could not get to simulation to be exactly what I was looking for. So, I switched over to 3dsmax and used the plugin FumeFx to create the basic smoke plume consisting of 1 million particles. Then I used the render-engine Krakatoa to create and render variations of this for a total of 25 million particles. I then brought it into After Effects for the final tweaks (i.e. color).
